Bulgarian Participation in
Golden
Bear Winner "Touch Me Not"

Berlin, February 26 (BTA) - The Golden Bear for best film at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival went to "Touch me not" of Romanian director Adina Pintilie, a co-production with Romanian, German, Czech, French and Bulgarian participation. The film has a Bulgarian co-producer and two Bulgarian actors in the cast, Irmena Chichikova and Georgi Naldjiev.

The pick for the best film Bear came as a surprise for critics and the press, which saw the film as a bold experiment.

Director Adina Pintilie, too, is quotes by Reuters as saying that she had not
expected to win the award for a film which "blurs reality and fiction as it follows characters who seek intimacy yet also fear it".

Irmena Chichikova says in an interview for dnevnik.bg that the film was a trip to her true self and went into depths that a person rarely has a chance to reach. She admits that some scenes were scary for her. "But it was important for me to know how I would react in a similar situation, to know how far my acting has developed, was I ready, how far I could go and where I would stop," the young actress says.

She hopes "Touch me not" might be a stepping stone in the international career she aspires to.

The screening of another Bulgarian co-production with the participation of Germany and France, "Aga" of director Milko Lazarov, closed this year's edition of the prestigious Berlin Film Festival. It was shown out of the competition programme. LN/
