National Film Centre Reports Threefold
Increase of Bulgarian Movie Viewers
in 2017


Sofia, March 7 (BTA) - The audience of Bulgarian movies has increased threefold in 2017 compared to the previous year, according to statistics of the National Film Centre's distribution department. The increase was from 177,647 viewers in 2016 to 513,332 in 2017.

The box office net for 2017 was 4,027,232 leva going up from 1,193,202 leva in 2016.

Last year, there were 5,575,969 viewers and tickets brought in 50,720,512 leva, compared to 5,532,490 viewers and 48,424,171 leva from tickets the previous year.

"Heights" was the most visited Bulgarian film with 130,470 viewers and 1,068,273 leva in the box office between its release on November 10, 2017 and the end of 2017. The runner-up was "Benzin" with 98,862 viewers and a boxoffice of 794,862 leva after its release on May 19, 2017. "Voevoda" was third with 87,604 viewers and a boxoffice of 679,249 leva.

The most popular film in Bulgarian movie theatres was "Fast and Furious 8" with 273,110 viewers and 2,494,562 leva in ticket sales. "Star Wars: the Last Jedi" ranked second with 218,647 viewers and 2,376,746 leva from tickes in just half a month. "Beauty and the Beast" came third with 196,958 viewers and 1,930,543 leva. BR/
