Bulgaria Increases
Biofuels
Production - Eurostat

Sofia, March 13 (BTA) - Bulgaria is among the EU member states showing a growth in the production and use of biofuels in transport, according to Eurostat figures on use of biofuels in 2016 and compliance with Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources.

Bulgaria uses over 7 per cent of energy from renewable sources in transport against a EU average of 10 per cent. It is as much as in countries including Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Portugal and Finland.

Experts in the biofuels industry say that the conditions in Bulgaria are favourable for production of rape seed, sunflower and other oil-bearing crops which are the key component in the production of biofuels.

The biofuels business is only fledgeling in Bulgaria but has attracted the interest of farmers, transport companies and other businesses using fuels in their production, analysts say. PK/LN/
