Opens in Rousse


Rousse, on the Danube, March 15 (BTA) - The 58th March Music Days international festival, the oldest music festival of its kind and one of the most reputed classical music festivals in Bulgaria, will begin here with a concert of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday evening and will end with a performance of the Rousse Festival Orchestra on April 1, festival director Iva Chavdarova said in an interview for BTA.

Chavdarova said that the festival programme features over 40 events with more than 650 participants from three continents and 16 countries, a great variety of orchestra and ensemble performances, educational projects, master classes, and exhibitions. The audience will also be able to hear over ten world and Bulgarian premieres of music pieces by Emil Tabakov, Vassil Kazandzhiev, Dragomir Yosifov and other Bulgarian and foreign composers.

To make their debut on the Bulgarian festival stage are top artists such as soloists Olivier Cazal, Yeol Eum Son, and Victor Julien-Laferriere, conductor Sasha Makila, bassoonist Sophie Dartigalongue, clarinet player Andrew Marriner, pianist Kasparas Uinskas, the Tanguarda tango ensemble, the Michelangelo String Quartet, and the Schumann String Quartet.

The fourth edition of March Music Days Junior - educational series of Rousse Municipality and America for Bulgaria Foundation - will feature performances under the When Classics Meets Jazz theme on March 24.
