site.btaParliament Terminates Credentials of Deputy Chairman of National Special Intelligence Means Control Bureau Georgi Gatev

Sofia, March 15 (BTA) - The National Assembly terminated the credentials of Georgi Gatev as member and Deputy Chairman of the National Special Intelligence Means Control Bureau because of the withdrawal of his clearance for access to information classified as top secret. The resolution was passed unanimously with no deliberations.

The State Agency for National Security (SANS) stripped Gatev of access to classified information in late July, shortly after the prosecuting magistracy said that he breached his official duties by meeting with magistrates and assisting them in filing applications with the Bureau to check whether they had been wiretapped unlawfully.

Gatev contested the withdrawal of his clearance for access to classified information, first before the Information Security Commission, and then before the Supreme Administrative Court which rejected the petition conclusively.
