Varna, on the Black Sea, August 30 (BTA) - The Golden Sands seaside resort's wastewater treatment plant is working normally, said here Thursday Environment Minister Neno Dimov. The Minister's assurances came after an inspection was conducted and samples were taken in response to the local water utility company's concerns that the treatment facility is full and there is a risk for waste water spilling back into the sewers.

Head of the Varna Water Utility, Valentin Vulkanov, said that the treatment plant is functioning normally, but in recent weeks the wastewater levels have risen due to the higher number of tourists during peak-season.

Varna Deputy Mayor Hristo Ivanov said that the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant will be increased and is expected to exceed 72,000 per capita loading units. LI/MY
