President Radev: "India Is an Extremely
Important Partner
to Bulgaria"


Sofia, September 5 (BTA) - Speaking at a joint news conference with Indian President Ram Nath Kovind, President Rumen Radev said India has always been a friend and an extremely important partner to Bulgaria. President Kovind, who is on a two-day state visit, was welcomed with military honours earlier on Wednesday.

Recalling that India is becoming a global economic factor, President Radev said top level political dialogue was resuming after a 15-year hiatus. "This visit is very important for cooperation between the two countries because it is a prerequisite for developing relations in all areas of shared interest: trade, the economy, science and education, investments, tourism and cultural exchange," said Radev.

President Kovind said relations between Bulgaria and India go back a long way in history. They have a solid basis on which a modern partnership can be built, based on shared democratic values and a commitment to global peace and security.

The two heads of State discussed the possible launch of direct air service between their countries.

Several bilateral documents were signed before the news conference: a Memorandum of Cooperation in Tourism; a Memorandum of Understanding between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia on having a visiting lecturer in Hindi; a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Institute for Nuclear Researches and Nuclear Energy and the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership; and a Programme for Cooperation in Science and Technology in 2018-2021.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the InvestBulgaria Agency and Invest India was signed at a bilateral business forum which opened in Sofia. RY/DD
