European Parliament Approves
over EUR 2.2 Mln in Aid
to Bulgaria for Disaster Damage Repair

Brussels, September 12 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - The European Parliament Tuesday approved 2,258,225 euro in EU aid to Bulgaria to help reconstruction after a natural disaster in 2017. The MEPs voted 652 in favour and four against, with 36 abstentions.

In January, Bulgaria applied for EU Solidarity Fund money to repair damage caused by storms and floods which hit the southeastern region of Bourgas last October 25-26. The disaster claimed five lives and affected some 6,000 people. Also, 142 residential and more than 1,200 non-residential buildings were flooded. The Bulgarian authorities estimate the direct damage at 90.3 million euro. LI/DD
