Sofia, December 31 (BTA) - Leader of the 27th Bulgarian Antarctic expedition Prof. Hristo Pimpirev said that this year they had to reserve more champagne to keep all New Year's Eve traditions, as the team includes Columbian, Cypriot and Mongolian scientists.

The celebrations will begin at 13:00 to mark the new year in Mongolia, and the second toast will be given at 19:00 to mark the new year in Bulgaria and Cyprus. Finally, a third toast will be given at 22:00 for the Columbian new year, where the custom includes giving as a present yellow underwear for love and prosperity, eating 12 grapes for health and luck, and running outside with backpacks for travels in the new year. At midnight, the expedition will celebrate the Antarctic new year.

Pimpirev said his team has achieved significant success in implementing its scientific programme. He noted that the team hopes the new scientific laboratory will soon be ready.

"From the Bulgarian base in Antarctica, we wish all Bulgarians health, luck and many a cause for national pride in 2019," Pimpirev said. LI/TH
