Deputy PM Nikolova:
Ukraine Confirmed Commitment
to Its Bulgarian Minority

May 22 (BTA) - Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Demographic Policy Mariyana Nikolova said here at the start of Wednesday's Council of Ministers meeting that the Ukrainian side has confirmed its commitments regarding the Bulgarian community there.

Nikolova represented the Bulgarian Government during the inauguration ceremony of Ukraine's new President Volodymyr Zelensky. She explained that Bulgaria was the second country to be invited to a one-on-one meeting with Zelensky, during which his predecessor Petro Poroshenko's commitments to the Bulgarian community in Ukraine were confirmed. These include maintaining the integrity of the Bolhrad (Bolgrad) region (an area in Ukraine with a significant population of ethnic Bulgarians), as well as the study of the Bulgarian language. Among the other confirmed commitments are the opening of an Ukrainian school with a focus on Bulgarian language studies, which were made by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and former Ukrainian president Poroshenko.

Nikolova described Ukraine's newly elected President as an innovative politician, who has given a clear signal that he will be a man of action, despite his lack of political experience. IG/MY
