site.bta7,000 Tonnes of Staple Foods Distributed to 500,000 People in Need

June 3 (BTA) - Over 500,000 people in need have received
7,000 tonnes of staple foods under the Operational Programme for
 Food and Material Assistance, the Social Assistance Agency
said. The programme is co-financed by the Fund for the European
Aid for the Most Deprived.

The distribution of the food packages began on December 6 2018
and ended in May 2019. The packages contained 16 foods selected
after consultations with the Health Ministry. By the end of
2019, people in need will receive a second food package under
the programme. The beneficiaries include individuals and
families who are eligible for social assistance. The Bulgarian
Red Cross is a partner organization in the project.

Under the programme over 50,000 people receive a hot meal daily.
