Will Not be Tabled in National Assembly,
Says PM Borissov


Sofia, November 19 (BTA) - The proposal by the government coalition that the first day of sick leave be left unpaid by employers, which was met with much resistance from the Trade Unions and other organizations, will not be submitted to the National Assembly. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov wrote this Tuesday in his personal Facebook profile.

The Prime Minister indicated that the topic would be discussed in the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation, as well as other important social issues such as TELC decisions.

The question of who pays how much in sickness benefits has been a point of contention between trade unions and employers for years. It resurfaced late last week after the unions objected strongly to a government proposal to leave the first day of a worker's sick leave unpaid by the employer.

Despite Borissov's decision, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CITUB) and the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour will hold protests at the end of the month, said the chairmen of the national strike committees of Podkrepa and CITUB Lyubka Georgieva and Todor Kapitanov, indicating that they were already organizing a joint protest committee.
