President Radev
Attends NATO Leaders
Meeting
London, December 4 (BTA Special Correspondent Asen Boyadjiev) - Arriving for the North Atlantic Council working session at Watford near London, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said that in 2014 the NATO Member States committed to increase their defence spending, which should be done transparently and efficiently and the quantitative criterion should not be the only benchmark.
Radev is attending the two-day NATO Leaders Meeting marking the Alliance's 70th anniversary.
The President said the point is how the investment is transformed into defence capabilities. It is no less important that defence spending should promote the country's own economic development and the strengthening of the social systems, not their depletion.
The NATO summit should not turn into a domestic policy forum, it should help to enhance unity and security. Still, the problems and the existing differences should be tabled openly for a constructive debate, said Radev. RI/DD
