site.btaBulgarian PM to EU Ambassadors: Agreement on Multiannual Financial Framework, Recovery Package Is Urgently Needed

November 23 (BTA) - During a meeting with the ambassadors of EU Member States and Switzerland held via video conference on Monday, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that the deepening social and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic requires quick action for the approval of the EU's 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Network and the recovery package, as these are key instruments for both the EU Member States and European economy as a whole to overcome the consequences. An agreement on these instruments should be reached as soon as possible so that the EU funds and programmes can begin working at the start of 2021, he also said, as quoted by the Government Information Service.

The participants in the meeting also discussed the achievement of a climate-neutral EU by 2050, the effective measures for handling the coronavirus, and the Western Balkans' European perspective.

Borissov recalled that it was during the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency that his country placed high on the agenda the Western Balkans European future. Talking about North Macedonia's EU integration, he said that Bulgaria has always been open to dialogue and understanding so as to solve the bilateral issues, but that requires will and implementation by both countries.
