Sofia, November 25 (BTA) - Bulgaria's Parliament Wednesday
voted, 111-93 with 8 abstentions, to reject a motion to hold
elections of a Grand National Assembly to adopt a new
constitution.

Of a total of 212 MPs voting, GERB and the United Patriots
supported the motion, BSP for Bulgaria, the Movement for Rights
and Freedoms and independents opposed it, and the rest
abstained.

The effective Constitution requires a two-thirds majority (i.e.
160 votes) for the passage of a motion to hold elections of a
Grand National Assembly.

A draft of a new constitution and a motion for the convocation
of a Grand National Assembly were tabled by 127 MPs of GERB,
United Patriots, Volya and independents on September 2. NV/PP
