February 8 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 223,734 after 2,663 tests identified 182 new infections in 24 hours on Sunday, according to data posted at https://coronavirus.bg. The test positivity rate for the day was 6.83 per cent.

Sofia City Region tops the list of new cases with 80 positive tests, followed by the regions of Blagoevgrad with 27 and Kyustendil with 14. Since the pandemic started, the highest number of cases has been confirmed, again, in Sofia City Region, at 59,231, followed by the regions of Plovdiv, 20,633, and Varna, 16,517.

Active cases number 21,152. Hospitalized patients currently stand at 3,126, including 278 in intensive care. Medical staff infected so far during the pandemic have reached 9,667, including 3,112 doctors and 3,175 nurses.

Another 60 COVID-19 patients recovered in Bulgaria on Sunday, bringing the total to 193,251. The number of new fatalities was 20, and the death toll now adds up to 9,331.

With 22 new inoculations on Sunday, 19,638 persons in aggregate have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in Bulgaria. RI/VE
