Sofia, October 8 (BTA) - Fifty-eight per cent of Bulgarians do not support the adoption of the euro as the country's official currency, shows a Trend survey commissioned by b2b Media for the fifth edition of the NEXT DIFI 2021 financial forum.

The survey, conducted in September 2021, shows that just 21 per cent of Bulgarians approve of the euro's adoption, while another 21 per cent are undecided.

According to 71 per cent of respondents, the euro's adoption will lead to a price hike in Bulgaria. Sixty-five per cent are of the opinion that the State does not provide enough information on the impact of the euro's introduction in Bulgaria - a factor that might explain why nearly one-third of respondents lack a position under most questions in the survey, the pollsters comment.

Twenty-seven per cent believe Bulgaria is obliged to join the euro area, as opposed to 44 per cent.

Asked how Bulgaria will change after it adopts the euro, 47 per cent replied "for the worse", 19 per cent "for the better", 15 per cent "nothing will change", and 19 per cent cannot say. MY/DS
