President Plevneliev Meets
with Potential
US Investors

Sofia/New York, September 27 (BTA) - On the last day of his
working visit to the United States, Bulgarian President Rosen
Plevneliev met with representatives of US companies wishing to
invest in Bulgaria. The meeting was organized by the Business
Council on International Cooperation, the Presidency's press
secretariat said Saturday.

The consistency in the Bulgarian institutions' actions, the
transparency in the work of the judicial system, the stability
of the banking sector, and the state of the energy sector were
among the questions raised by the business representatives at
the meeting.

Plevneliev underscored that Bulgaria and the countries in
Southeastern Europe share the idea of better connection between
the transport and energy systems in the region, which increases
the business environment's stability. He confirmed Bulgaria's
readiness to finish the administrative reform, as well as to
work for a more effective and transparent judicial system. The
caretaker Government is about to prepare proposals for
legislative changes which will improve the work of the State
Energy and Water Regulatory Commission as an independent
regulator, Plevneliev also said.

The head of State noted that Bulgaria has already achieved
results in sectors such as automobile parts manufacturing and
high technologies. "Eighty per cent of the cars produced in
Europe today have components from the factories in Bulgaria,"
he added. Plevneliev listed as competitive advantages of the
Bulgarian economy the attractive taxation and the qualified
cadres. "World-known companies have opened production capacities
and logistics centres in Bulgaria, and they have achieved
success," he told the representatives of the US business
community.
