Sofia, April 8 (BTA) - Meeting here on Wednesday with European
Defence Agency Chief Executive Jorge Domecq, Defence Minister
Nikolay Nenchev said that the Ministry is working hard on a
programme to build the defence capabilities of the armed forces
and modernize them.

Nenchev said that his ambition is to secure a two-thirds
majority for the approval of the programme by Parliament, adding
that this will reconfirm Bulgaria's commitments to NATO and the
EU.

Nenchev said that Bulgaria highly appreciates EDA's will to ease
access of NATO member countries to EU structural and investment
funds in support of defence and security research.

For his part, EDA Chief Executive Domecq said that Europe needs
a strong a competitive defence industry and one of the ways to
support it is through pooling and consolidating demand.

The visit in Bulgaria is part of a series of visits by Domecq to
all EDA Member States following his appointment as EDA Chief
Executive on February 1 and ahead of the Ministerial Steering
Board on 18 May 2015. So far, Domecq has visited Spain,
Lithuania, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany,
Portugal, the Netherlands, Ireland and France. PK/PP
