One Dead, Three Missing
after 10-Floor Building Collapse

Varna, on the Black Sea, April 9 (BTA) - One person has been
killed and three others are unaccounted for after a building in
the Sunny Day resort near Varna collapsed on Wednesday, the
Varna Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry told BTA.
The victim and the three missing men were reportedly
construction workers involved in the demolition of the
structure, which the Varna Fire Safety and Civil Protection
Director, Commissioner Tihomir Totev, identified as the onetime
10-floor Hotel Veronica.

On Wednesday evening, rescue teams started scanning the debris
with thermographic cameras, seeking signs or life, after which
the site will be physically searched as well. For the time
being, the effort has not produced any results.

The National Construction Control Directorate has immediately
launched an investigation into the accident, the Ministry of
Regional Development and Public Works said in a press release.
