UNESCO Director-General Bokova Suggests Including Feast of Rose in Kazanluk in Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage
Paris, April 16 (BTA) - UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova has
suggested including the Feast of the Rose in Kazanluk, Southern
Bulgaria, in UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible
Cultural Heritage of Humanity, sources from the Kazanluk Town
Hall said. On Thursday Bokova conferred with visiting Kazanluk
Mayor Galian Stoyanova. The UNESCO Director-General said that
the Kazanluk is famous with the growing of roses and with the
Valley of the Thracian Kings. She assured that inscribing the
latter on the World Heritage List in the foreseeable future is
totally viable.
In January 2016 the complex of Thracian monuments near Kazanluk
is likely to be included in UNESCO's indicative list. The
Kazanluk Town Hall has prepared the necessary documents and the
procedure is in progress. UNESCO experts are to visit the Valley
of Thracian Kings for preparing an opinion.
Stoyanova invited Bokova and her team to visit Kazanluk for this
year's Feast of the Rose.
Attending the meeting in UNESCO's headquarters were also Maria
Donska, Chief Secretary of Bulgaria's National Commission for
UNESCO, Chairman of the Kazanluk Municipal Council Nikolai
Zlatanov and Momchil Marinov, Director of the Kazanluk Museum of
History.
