New Scheme Regulates
Milk Producers' Relationships
with Wholesalers

Sofia, April 17 (BTA) - State Fund Agriculture launched a new
scheme to regulate the commercial relationships between milk
producers and wholesalers, the Agriculture and Food Ministry
reported on Friday. The Scheme for Contractual Relationships in
the Milk Sector is aimed to exercise control over raw milk
supply contracts and their possible amendment. It introduces a
new regulatory mechanism after the quota system was abolished.

The scheme requires producers of raw milk from cows, goats,
sheep and buffalos to sign contracts with the first wholesaler
buying their products and allows direct negotiation of the
price, the supply timetable, the payment method and deadline,
and other conditions.

Raw milk supply contracts can be concluded for a fixed period of
at least six months or an indefinite period. After a contract
is signed, the buyer must register with the respective regional
directorate of State Fund Agriculture. The producer can check if
the signed contract has been duly registered. LI/VE
