BTA to Host EANA Conference
Sofia, April 22 (BTA) - Bulgaria and the Bulgarian News Agency
(BTA) will host the annual conference of the European Alliance
of News Agencies (EANA) for the first time in the most recent
history.
The directors general and the chiefs of the biggest news
agencies in Europe will hold discussions April 22-24.
Participating in the event will be the directors of France
Presse, DPA, TASS, the Anadolu Agency, Press Association,
Ukrinform, EFE and another 50 managers of agencies across
Europe.
The conference will be entitled "News Agencies and Strategies in
the Information Age". The participants will focus on topical
problems before news agency journalism in the time of the
copy-paste model of distribution of information. Apart from
professional discussions on news making in the digital world,
the programme also includes meetings with the mayors of Sofia
and Plovdiv.
EANA was set up in 1956 with the purpose of supporting the
maintenance of a good media environment, freedom of speech, fair
competition and clear operational rules, so that the news
agencies could provide unbiased and reliable information. Around
30 leading European news agencies are members of the Alliance.
The main problems, addressed by the organization, are copyright
and intellectual property in the conditions of modern
technological changes and the free market as well as the related
legislation at all levels.
