Bulgaria Has One of Most Modern Legislations for Forfeiture of Criminally Acquired Property
Sofia, April 28 (BTA) - Bulgaria is among the countries with the
most modern legislation for forfeiture of property acquired by
criminal means, National Assembly Chair Tsetska Tsacheva said
Tuesday, opening an
international conference on Asset Forfeiture to the Exchequer:
Models of Crime Suppression in the European Union. The forum is
organized by Transparency International-Bulgaria.
Tsacheva said that about 3,600 criminal groups operate in the
EU, whose assets are estimated at 110 billion euro. She dwelled
on legal amendments in this field Bulgaria passed back in 2012
and on the greater clout of the commission for forfeiture of
criminal assets.
Chairman of the commission Plamen Georgiev urged for legal
amendments which better protect the interests of the members of
the public.
