Sofia Hosts Fifth Edition of
International Festival of Ethnographic
Films

Sofia, May 4 (BTA) - Sofia hosts the fifth edition of the
International Festival of Ethnographic Films May 11 to 16, the
organizers of the event said.

The themes of the festival are cultural heritage, migrations,
environment, kinship ties, globalization, among others. The
programme includes 26 films from Africa, Europe, America and
Asia that will take the audience on a kind of a round-the-world
trip.

The journey sets off from the Balkans where the viewers will see
several rituals, disappearing crafts and odd traditions. Films
about two of Bulgaria's three objects in UNESCO's Representative
List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the
Chiprovsti carpet-weaving tradition and fire dancing, will be
shown too.

Next, the viewers will go East, to Southern India, where through
the eyes of the locals they will see the changes in the human
relations and the environment brought about by "the
development".

Next comes a peek into the everyday life of a Mexican prison for
juveniles and a film to explain why the passinho, or "little
step", dance has become the most important cultural event in Rio
in the past ten years.

The events of the festival are to be held in the G8 Cultural
Centre, the Sofia University and Goethe Institut. Admission is
free. LY /ZH/
