Revenue from Winter Tourism up 6% Y/Y - Tourism Minister

Sofia, May 11 (BTA) - The last winter season was successful,
with a year-on-year growth of 8.2 per cent according to national
statistics, 1.2 million tourists and December-March revenue of
640 million leva, the Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova
said. She was speaking at a Monday news conference following a
meeting with winter resort representatives and local authorities
with the participation of her adviser in the field of winter
tourism, Marc Girardelli.

The main increase of tourists (by 30 per cent) came from Turkey.
The number of tourists from Italy also increased by some 20 per
cent, followed by 10 per cent from Germany, 8 per cent from
Austria, 6 per cent from Greece, as well as the other
neighbouring countries.

The Ministry of Tourism is drafting revisions to the legislation
to make the construction of ski lifts and facilities easier,
Angelkova said.

The business circles and the state agreed that a common strategy
is required in respect to the marketing and supply, as well as
that there is a need of a slogan for the winter campaign every
year. A national advertisement programme for 2016 will be
adopted at the meeting of the National Tourism Council at the
end of June.

A roadmap concerning the strategy for development of a mountain
tourism strategy was presented by Girardelli at the meeting,
Angelkova said. The strategy is expected to be completed by the
end of this or the beginning of next year.
