Prime Minister Demands Declassification of Total Information Regarding Failed Corporate Commercial Bank

Sofia, May 15 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has urged
the ad hoc parliamentary committee of inquiry into the acts of
the state authorities in respect of the case with the failed
Corporate Commercial Bank (Corpbank) to propose declassifying
the full information about the entire period of existence of the
bank.

Borissov assigned this to committee chairperson Dessislava
Atanassova and Chairperson of the parliamentary Budget Committee
Menda Stoyanova. He said he meant information about companies,
individuals, loans, assignments during the entire period of
existence of the bank.

Corpbank suspended operations on June 21, 2014 after a run by
depositors left it illiquid. On the same day the central bank
placed it under conservatorship and the conservator remained at
the bank until March 25, 2015 when they were replaced by
trustees in bankruptcy. Corpbank is now delicensed and declared
bankrupt by a court.

On Thursday media circulated scanned copies of a notebook
containing a handwritten list of names of Corpbank headquarters'
visitors in various periods of 2013 and 2014. From the copies
it transpired that regulators, politicians, businessmen and
newspaper publishers met in the period of Corpbank's apogee
until its collapse last June with controversial banker Tsvetan
Vassilev, who is the former majority owner of the bank and who
has been charged with aiding senior Corpbank executives to
embezzle nearly 206 million leva from it between December 2011
and June 2014.

Borissov commented that it was wrong for heads of regulatory
bodies to visit Vassilev except if the visit was to check
something. The notebook names feature head of the Financial
Supervision Commission Stoyan Mavrodiev, who Borissov said was
not a member of his GERB party. "If I had visited with Vassilev,
I would have told you the purpose of the visit," Borissov said.
