Sofia Underground Wins Competition for Accessible Urban Environment

Sofia, May 20 (BTA) - The Sofia Underground won an award of the
Secretariat of the Council of Europe within the fifth edition of
a competition on accessibility of the regions for 2015, the
Sofia Municipality said. The award is conferred in the category
of Accessible living conditions - buildings, roads, transport.
It was presented to Albena Atanassova, Deputy Mayor for social
activities and integration of people with disabilities, at a
special ceremony in Paris on May 19.

The competition is held under the auspices of Council of Europe
Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland and French President
Francois Hollande.

All 34 stations of the Sofia Underground are equipped with
wheelchair accessible lifts and the 27 new ones have minimum two
entrances with lifts.
