ABV Leader Purvanov Says Party  Will not Support  Constitutional Amendments Proposal

Varna, on the Black Sea, July 5 (BTA) - ABV will not support the
proposal for amending the Constitution, said here on Sunday ABV
leader and former president (2002-2012) Georgi Purvanov.
According to him, quick and efficient law enforcement in
Bulgaria could be achieved through correcting texts of the
Judiciary Act. Purvanov said his party has already drafted
proposals which will be presented in Parliament.

ABV wants at least one of the future referendum's questions
revised, Purvanov noted, explaining that this pertains to the
question about the majoritarian elections. Formulating the
referendum questions this way is risky and could fail and
compromise even more the idea for direct democracy idea.
Purvanov also noted that if the referendum results do not meet
President Rosen Plevneliev's expectations, he should resign, as
the referendum serves as a kind of vote of confidence in the
President.

Purvanov said that all of ABV's nominations for the upcoming
local elections will be announced by the month's end. The
formation's Executive Council has already approved 49
candidates, some of which are non-partisan and are supported in
a coalition format. ABV will back the better candidates for
mayors and not the ones more likely to be elected, he said.
According to Purvanov, the chance of ABV supporting GERB
nominations is close to zero. Commenting the Bulgarian Socialist
Party (BSP), Purvanov said it has been declining for the past
ten years, no one is claiming responsibility and no steps are
being taken to solve the problems. According to him, BSP is
heading towards complete self-isolation and should change their
approach.
