Balkan Cluster Project to Promote Economic Development across Border in Bulgaria, Serbia

Sofia, August 11 (BTA) - A project called Balkan Cluster will promote economic development in the cross-border area between Bulgaria and Serbia, the participants in the project - the Bulgarian Foundation for Development of Entrepreneurship and Cluster House-Nis, told a BTA-hosted news conference.

Project Manager Galina Karamocheva said a platform for long-term cooperation of the clusters in the area of Sofia and Nis Region will be created.

The project is funded by the EU's Programme for Cross-border Cooperation and the Bulgaria-Serbia Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance 2007-2013. The project will receive a grant of 100,230 euro and will be implemented until April 2016.

Karamocheva said that five projects for clusters and four projects in other related areas have received support from the Bulgaria-Serbia Programme for Cross-border Cooperation. The development of cooperation between clusters will also be discussed at conferences in Nis and Sofia.

The project is expected to aid the creation of a network for cooperation among clusters in the region by means of joint projects for products with high added value, new businesses, market niches, transfer of technologies and innovations.
