European Commission Vice-President Georgieva: "Bulgaria Ranks Eighth in EU Funds Absorption"

Sofia, October 11 (BTA) - "For the first time, Bulgaria ranks among the top ten in the absorption of EU funds: it has placed eighth," European Commission Vice-President for Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Georgieva commented to journalists here on Sunday. In her words, the country may climb even further up in the ranking in the time remaining until the end of the year.

"This year Bulgaria is fully benefiting from its EU membership, measured in terms of EU funds absorption," Georgieva said. "This year we have added more than 4 per cent to our country's GDP by completely and entirely absorbing the EU funds," she added.

She sees this as translating into better living conditions for Bulgarians, more jobs and more opportunities for young people in this country to communicate with their friends Europewide. The Vice-President congratulated the Bulgarian Government on these results. "At this difficult moment for Europe, it is very important for Bulgaria to be able to take full and comprehensive advantage of its membership, and it is doing it," Georgieva also said.
