Swiss Agricultural Producers Show Interest in Cooperating with Bulgaria

Sofia/Bern, October 15 (BTA) - Swiss agricultural producers show interest in cooperating with Bulgaria, it emerged from a meeting between Agriculture Minister Dessislava Taneva and the Swiss Director of the Federal Office for Agriculture, Bernard Lehmann, the Bulgarian Agriculture and Food Ministry reported on Thursday. Taneva is paying a visit to Switzerland at the invitation of Bulgaria's Ambassador there Meglena Plougchieva.

Taneva and Lehmann discussed the opportunities for exchanging experience in the field of small-scale stock breeding and direct access to markets. The Bulgarian Minister described as a weakness the associating of agricultural producers in Bulgaria and reducing the distance between producers and end consumers.

Lehmann noted that there is a need for exchanging information between the two countries, as they experience similar problems. The two committed themselves to work for deepening cooperation between Bulgaria and Switzerland, noting that both share an understanding about how agriculture should develop. The Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture Director accepted Taneva's invitation to visit Bulgaria and familiarize himself personally with the sector's development.

The meeting was also attended by Roumen Zhelev and Sultanka Petrova, who are members of the Parliamentary Agriculture and Food Committee.
