President Plevneliev Extols Levski's Ideal for a Worthy Place for Bulgaria in Europe

Sofia, February 20 (BTA) - Speaking at the marking of the 143rd death anniversary of revolutionary Vassil Levski on Saturday evening, President Rosen Plevneliev said: "We can go forward only if we follow in Vassil Levski's resolute footsteps, working towards a pure and sacred republic and a worthy place for Bulgaria in Europe - a path which demands morality, honesty and love of our country."

Plevneliev said that attempts to distort the agenda and deflect attention from the real problems will fail. "Neither the populism of fake patriots, nor the magic solutions suggested by quite a few populists and messiahs, nor questioning the national ideal will take Bulgaria onto the road to prosperity," he said.

"Everyone in Bulgaria declares themselves against corruption and the oligarchy and in favour of a socially responsible market economy. Levski taught us that it is deeds, not excuses, that are needed," said Plevneliev.

The event was attended by Parliament Chairperson Tsetska Tsacheva, Deputy Prime Ministers Roumyana Buchvarova and Ivailo Kalfin, Patriarch Neophyte, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, MPs, high-ranking military officers  and members of the public.
