Berlin/Sofia, June 6 (BTA) - Starting an two-day official visit to Berlin on Tuesday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the information service of the Bulgarian government said.

Steinmeier congratulated Borissov on the latter's recent election for a third term in office and said that Europe, the Balkans and Bulgaria needed the government led by him.

Borissov said that Bulgaria values highly the excellent and friendly relations with Germany. He said that the active bilateral political dialogue is a clear indication of the will of the two countries to strengthen the partnership between them in matters of mutual interest. The Bulgarian Prime Minister said that his country will continue to rely on Germany's experience and valuable support in areas that are of priority importance.

Borissov thanked for the understanding and solidarity support Bulgaria receives from Germany in the EU and NATO, paying special attention on the former's efforts to join the Eurozone "waiting room" and the border-free Schengen Area. Borissov expressed certainty that the good relations between Bulgaria and Germany in the spirit of the traditional friendship and the shared European values contribute towards attaining the common goal: building a strong, stable, prospering and united Europe that responds to the expectations of the people and successfully copes with the challenges facing it.

Steinmeier received the Bulgarian Prime Minister in the Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the President of Germany.

Borissov arrived in Berlin from Paris where he held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. On Wednesday Borissov is scheduled to confer with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. ZH//
