Sofia, November 6 (BTA) - Three Bulgarian films have been nominated for the European Film Awards, said the organizers of Sofia Film Fest (SFF). This is without precedent in the 30-year history of the wards of the European Film Academy, said the SFF team.

The awards will be presented in Berlin on December 9.

Godless of director Ralitsa Petrova is nominated in the European Discovery category (Prix Fipresci). A co-production of Bulgaria, Denmark and France, it won the Golden Leopard prize at the 69th edition of Locarno Film Festival where it premiered in August 2016. It was only the first of several major international distinctions that the film has since won.

The Good Postman, a co-production of Finland and Bulgaria, is nominated in the documentary competition. The film is
written by Bulgarians Tonislav Hristov and Lubomir Tsvetkov, directed by Hristov and produced by Kaarle Aho and Kai Nordberg. It has already participated successfully in the IDFA festival in Amsterdam.

It is the first documentary from Bulgaria to be nominated for the European Film Awards after Chia e Tazi Pesen? [Whose Is This Song?] (2003) and Razvod po Albanski [Divorce Albanian Style] (2007), both of which were directed by Adela Peeva.

For the first time, a film with Bulgarian participation is among the nominations in the comedy category of the European Film Awards. King of the Belgians is a co-production of Belgium, The Netherlands and Bulgaria and most of it was shot on location in Bulgaria.
