site.btaUNESCO Regional Centre in Sofia Continues Work for Six More Years

Paris/Sofia, November 10 (BTA) - UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Bulgarian Culture Minister Boil Banov signed in Paris an agreement on continuing the work of UNESCO's Regional Centre in Sofia for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, Banov's Ministry said in a press release. The agreement is for a new six-year period.

UNESCO's Regional Centre in Sofia unites the efforts of 16 countries in Southeast Europe in promoting and implementing the UNESCO Convention on the Preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Cyprus, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia and Montenegro.

The signing ceremony was attended by Bulgarian Ambassador in France Angel Cholakov, Ambassador Atanas Mladenov, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture Francesco Bandarin, and diplomats.
