Brussels, November 22 (BTA) - During the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2018, culture will be viewed as one of the main engines in the future development of the EU, said here Culture Minister Boil Banov during the Tuesday meeting of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council, the Bulgarian Culture Ministry reported on Wednesday.

Banov said that an emphasis will be placed on contemporary elements, citizens, young people and digital opportunities. He assured that work will continue on one of the priorities included in the agenda of the EU Presidency Trio, which is the Audiovisual Media Services Directive. It is of special importance to Bulgaria that the EU Presidency will be held during the European Year of Cultural Heritage in 2018, he noted.

Cultural heritage will be a horizontal topic during the Bulgarian EU Presidency and will focus on its role in achieving the goals of other sectoral policies, as well as its role in society in general and the creation of quality modern European content, which will remain as cultural heritage for the coming generations, Banov said.

The Bulgarian Culture Minister also presented the schedule of events, topics and activities prepared for the first half of 2018.
