Sofia, February 9 (BTA) - The excise duty revenue from tobacco and manufactured tobacco products increased by 2.8 per cent in 2017 compared to 2018, Bulgaria's National Customs Agency Director Georgi Kostov told a news briefing here on Friday, quoted by his Agency in a press release.

In the first half of 2017, excise duty revenue from this group of goods was by 150.1 million leva (12.5 per cent) lower than the revenue collected in January-June 2016. The excise duty revenue from tobacco and manufactured tobacco products in February, March and April 2017 lagged behind the level in the respective months of the previous year, mainly because over 780 million fewer cigarettes were released for consumption, compared to the same period of 2016.

In the second half of 2017, excise duty revenue from tobacco and manufactured tobacco rose by 19.5 per cent from the comparable period a year earlier, reaching 1,317.7 million leva, or 266.7 million leva (25.4 per cent) more than the revenue collected in the first half of 2017. This closed the revenue gap in January-June 2017, Kostov said.
