site.btaOver EUR 16 Mln to Be Invested in Projects in Dobrich Region, Romanian Municipalities

Dobrich, Northeastern Bulgaria, April 10 (BTA) - Over 16 million euro will be invested in Dobrich Region and Romanian municipalities for projects approved so far this year under the INTERREG V-A Romania - Bulgaria Programme (2014-2020).

Ten initiatives of municipalities, institutions and NGOs have received support for infrastructure improvements, cultural events and equipment for emergency situations, among others.

Dobrich Municipality and Harsova (Romania) will create a cultural events route and will attracts tourists to a song and dance festival in the Bulgarian village of Debrene and an arts and crafts festival in the Romanian town of Harsova. The joint project worth 1,410,000 euro also includes renovation of the community centres of two Bulgarian villages and the Carsium cultural centre in Harsova.

The towns of Shabla (Bulgaria) and Cernavoda (Romania) will get 1,494,000 euro to popularize the Hamangia culture, a Late Neolithic archaeological culture. Improvements will be made for tourists to the Big Island in Lake Durankulak. The Big Island, known as the Lake City or the European Troy, features prehistoric remains from what is believed to be the first sedentary agricultural lifestyle in Europe. Three observation platforms will be put up and the pedestrian alley will be widened.

The towns of General Toshevo (Bulgaria) and Murfatlar (Romania) will also develop a cultural infrastructure project and will provide modern equipment at historical heritage sites.

Joint initiatives in Balchik and Mangalia, a Bulgarian NGO and Constanta Municipality will also receive funding.
