Police patrols with dogs are on duty starting Tuesday on the streets of Burgas. In addition to the main pedestrian Alexandrovska and Bogoridi streets, officers from the Specialized Police Forces will patrol the area of the central railway station, the Sea Garden and places where there are large concentrations of people.

On Tuesday, policemen Ivan Kolev and Panayot Stavrev from the Specialized Police Forces Unit patrolled the city streets together with dogs Ajax and Dark.

The three-year-old Dark is trained for the protection of public order in large gatherings, has participated in the security of football teams and protests, and has already patrolled on New Year's Eve. His partner Ajax is also three years old and is trained to work track and find people. He is also trained to apprehend people who have committed crimes, his handler said, adding that it takes at least two years of continuous work for the dog to acquire these skills. "Ajax and I are one, we complement each other," said the officer.

Ajax and Dark are part of the canine police unit, which currently has 13 trained dogs of two breeds - Belgian and German Shepherd.
