Two birds of the globally endangered Egyptian vulture species have been found poisoned in the Eastern Rhodopes, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) reported on its Facebook page. One of the birds - a female - has died. The other vulture is in critical condition at the Wildlife Rescue Centre of Green Balkans in Stara Zagora (South Central Bulgaria).

The female bird was found thanks to its transmitter, while the other was discovered by the BSPB anti-poison team.

The police are working on the case.

This is yet another case of vultures dying due to poisoned bait. In early March, four birds of the endangered Griffon vulture species were found poisoned in a pasture fenced with an electric fence in the village of Moschanets in the southwestern municipality of Blagoevgrad. Two of the birds were found dead and the other two were rescued.
