An urban park will be built in Ruse as part of a project under the Interreg VI-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme, Ivaylo Kadishev, the project manager on the Bulgarian side and Director of the International Policies, Economic Activities and Analyses Directorate at Ruse Municipality, announced. The programme is financed by the European Regional Development Fund, which aims to develop the Romanian-Bulgarian border area during the 2021-2027 period.
The park will be located in an urbanized area near a large shopping center in the Zdravets-Iztok residential district. The recreation area will feature a network of pathways, a water feature, playgrounds, picnic areas, event zones, biodiversity-related spaces, and an herb garden. Native plant species will be planted throughout the park. The facilities will include solar-powered lighting, video surveillance, and an automated irrigation system. Additional features will include park furniture and a drinking water fountain.
The three-year project also includes greening and landscaping a recreational area in the Romanian municipality of Giurgiu. The total project budget is approximately EUR 2.8 million, with EUR 1,746,373.24 allocated for Ruse Municipality.
