The Operational Programme Human Resources Development has reached 1.245 million people in Bulgaria during the programming period 2014-2020, said Desislava Ushkolova, Head of the Programming and Contracting Department at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, speaking during a regional conference Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future in Vidin (Northwest Bulgaria) on Tuesday.
Ushkolova added that some 100,000 unemployed people have undergone training under the programme, 115,000 young people have gained access to internships, jobs, and mentoring services, and 125,000 elderly people from vulnerable groups have received improved access to social services. In the Vidin region, the programme has reached almost 3,300 young people and 3,300 elderly residents, while 1,200 of children received services for early childhood development.
Ushkolova noted that the programme is currently being actively implemented in the new programming period 2021-2027, which has a budget of more than BGN 3.850 billion.
She also presented the Youth Employment Initiative, which has a budget of BGN 188 million. Eligible activities under the initiative feature internships for young people up to 29 years, on-the-job training, as well as subsidized employment of up to nine months. The idea of the procedure is for young people without experience to acquire it.
Ushkolova also presented the Qualification, Skills and Career Development of Employed Persons Procedure, which has a budget of BGN 50 million and is again implemented by the Employment Agency. The procedure is mainly aimed at training for qualification, foreign languages, as well as digital skills for advanced or highly specialized level.
The BTA project "Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future" is supported by the European Commission. It aims to foster a better understanding of the role of cohesion policy in the Balkans; to raise awareness of projects funded by the EU through the Cohesion Funds; promote dialogue on the results of the projects at local level and boost civic participation in issues related to cohesion policy.
