Attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony of a new Austrian library corner in the Regional Library "Peyo K. Yavorov" in Burgas on Monday, Austrian Ambassador to Bulgaria Andrea Ikic-Bohm said that this is the first Austrian library of such kind in Bulgaria.
Ikic-Bohm described the library corner as a symbol of the special link between Austria and the Burgas Region. "I am glad that the readers in Burgas will have access to Austrian literature," she said, adding that she hoped the library would strengthen the friendship between Burgas and Austria.
The library includes books by Austrian authors as well as about Austria in general. "They are from different fields of knowledge, and the selection is very diverse", Ikic-Bohm explained, adding that most of the books were bought with funds provided by the Austrian General Ministry for European and International Affairs. "Others came from Austria and were donated by all the federal states. In addition, there are editions provided by the three major Austrian libraries in Bulgaria - in Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse", the ambassador added.
She thanked the Municipality of Burgas for the successful cooperation and the Honorary Consul of Austria in the city Radostina Ivanova-Kishineva for the support.
"The dissemination of the knowledge and achievements of Austrian scientific and artistic thought, and in the original language, which is extremely valuable and will enrich not only the graduates of the German language school, but also all German-speaking citizens of Burgas," added Mihail Nenov, Deputy Mayor for Education at Burgas Municipality.
