Young people from the Taraclia region including representatives of the Bulgarian minority in Moldova took part in the National Forum of Ethnic Minorities - 2024. The event brought together experts and political figures to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing national minorities in Moldova.

Among the attendees were President of Moldova Maia Sandu, the Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova Janis Mazeiks, Deputy Chair of Taraclia region Andrei Baltakov.

Sandu, quoted by moldovalibera.md, wrote on her Facebook page on September 7: "Moldova's path to the EU also offers unlimited opportunities for the development of Moldova's cultures. But this will only be possible if we are together. What we do today will determine our fate, the fate of our children and the fate of our country for decades to come. We have no right to make a mistake. For us, to me, it does not matter what language a person speaks, what their ethnic roots are or what their religion is."

The forum addressed four main topics: 'EU legislation and policies for national minorities'; 'Education, cultural diversity and minority rights in the context of European Moldova'; 'The role of media, civil society and youth in ethnic communities'; 'Economic and social development of ethnic communities with EU support'.

The event was organized with the financial support of the Soros Foundation Moldova and the European Foundation for Democracy.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova from 2014, some 54,000 ethnic Bulgarians lived in Moldova, comprising 1.9% of the country's population.
