A working group led by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Prof. Genka Petrova visited Chisinau on January 17-19, 2024 to discuss the details of a future intergovernmental agreement. The working group included representatives of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse and the Bulgarian Embassy in Chisinau, the diplomatic mission said.

Petrova and Moldova’s Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education Adriana Cazacu discussed the strengthening of cooperation in education and research and new opportunities for project development. Several aspects of Moldovan-Bulgarian relations in the fields of education and research were considered at the meeting. The sides appreciated the fundamental legal framework for promoting cooperative relations, highlighting the 2000 cooperation agreement on the recognition of study documents, 2004 agreement between the Moldovan and Bulgarian governments on the granting of aid to the Gregory Tsamblak State University in Taraclia and the 2008 interministerial protocol on cooperation in education, mec.gov.md reported.

Cazacu said that the Bulgarian government’s support is considerable, both in the field of education and research and in socio-cultural and economic relations, especially the recent political support regarding Moldova's European integration. The Moldovan Secretary of State thanked the Bulgarian side for the support given to the University of Taraclia, which since 2004 has made donations of books and computers, granted scholarships to students, sent delegations of lecturers from Bulgaria to teach courses in Bulgarian, and offered internships and trainings for lecturers and students.

Petrova noted that Bulgaria will continue to support Moldova in the EU accession process. Discussions were also held on improving the quality of education and professional training of students and teaching staff at Gregory Tsamblak State University and the prospect of signing a new cooperation agreement in this regard. Finally, the sides agreed to continue the dialogue and to work together on as many bilateral projects as possible.
