A photo exhibition titled "This is Bulgaria" took place between October 1 and 8 at the Sanda International Association, based in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The event was organized in collaboration with Bulgaria’s Embassy in Tokyo, the diplomatic mission in Japan said on its Facebook page.

On the last day of the exhibition, Petar Nikolaev, First Secretary at the Embassy, gave a lecture on Bulgarian history, culture, industry, modern development, tourist attractions, and traditional local products. The event was attended by residents of the Japanese city of Sanda, Japan International Cooperation Agency volunteers, NGO representatives, etc.

On October 8, the Bulgarian diplomat also attended a sixth-century Shinto shrine autumn festival in the town of Taka in Hyogo Prefecture.

Bulgaria has a tradition of cultural exchanges with Sanda, Taka, and nearby localities in Hyogo Prefecture. Over the years, a total of four presentations on Bulgaria have been held in Sanda and Taka. In 2010, several towns in Hyogo Prefecture hosted a Bulgarian children’s drawing exhibition under the theme of “The Black Sea”. In 2011, a children’s drawing exhibition on the theme of "Danube River Landscapes" was held in the cities of Kato and Kakogawa. In 2013, drawings by children from the north-western Bulgarian city of Vidin were included in an exhibition titled "My Grandparents" in Taka, where the Japanese tradition of marking a Respect for the Aged Day every third Monday in September originates.
