The international wine contest Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) will start on Friday in Burgas. Until April 13, the seaside city will also host the Sauvignon Selection. More than 1,200 Sauvignon Blanc wines will compete for medals in this year's edition, and the samples will be judged by a 60-member international jury.

Ministers of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh and of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov have been invited to Burgas for the opening ceremony. The event includes a masterclass on the production of Sauvignon Blanc in Bulgaria, and the influence of yeasts on Sauvignon styles, which will be held at the "Sea Casino” cultural centre. That is where Bulgarian wines of all varieties will be presented to the jury members.

There has been record high interest in the contest from Bulgarian wineries, which will compete against foreign producers of white wines. Nearly 60 samples have been submitted from Bulgarian producers, organisers said. In 2024, CMB CEO Quentin Havaux announced in Burgas that a special conference on Sauvignon would be held in April for the members of the jury, who would have the opportunity to visit wineries in the region.

Founded in 1994, the CMB is the largest and most prestigious international contest, recognised by producers, merchants, oenologists, sommeliers and journalists from all over the world.  The competition travels around the world and countries compete to host it. Previous hosts have included France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Taiwan, Brazil, China, Chile, and others.
