Plovdiv hosted the third edition of the 2024 Urban Wine Fest, which was held on Friday and Saturday on the occasion of International Mavruda Day. The wine festival was organized for the third time by the Bulgarian Association of Wine Professionals (BAWP), but the people of Plovdiv celebrated the International Mavruda Day for the fifth consecutive year. In addition to the Urban Wine Fest 2024 in Plovdiv, various events dedicated to wine will be held until the end of October, tastings in wine bars and shops, wine dinners in restaurants, promotions in online shops and master classes.
The 2024 Plovdiv Urban Wine Fest took place in the city centre and featured wine bars, culinary corners and caravans, and a music programme. A selection of 15 local varieties presented in different styles from 38 different wine producers were be available for wine tastings during the two festival days. Visitors were be able to choose between a glass of wine and bottles for consumption on the spot or to take home. BAWP wine experts presented the wines. Ten out of the 38 wines were from Plovdiv region.
The festival was opened with a musical performance by the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, and during the rest of the time, the musical programme included performances by the Garbachev Quartet and DJ Manev.
In the past three years, the BAWP team organized a total of four urban wine festivals per year, called Urban Wine Fest , in four major cities in the country. This year the festival has already been held in the cities of Veliko Tarnovo, Varna and Sofia.
International Mavruda Day is an initiative by the Bulgarian Association of Wine Professionals, which brings together experts in every field of the wine business, including oenologists and cellar owners, wine merchants, marketing specialists, wine tourism, export. The event is held under the auspices of the Minister of Tourism, with the official support of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Municipality of Plovdiv. The festival is part of the events calendar of the city of Plovdiv and is financed by the Annual Programme for the Development of Tourism in the Municipality of Plovdiv for 2024.
