The 10th Wine and Gourmet Festival will be held in Plovdiv between May 10 and 12. A taste of the upcoming event was provided at a news conference on Tuesday by the city's Deputy Mayor Plamen Panov, the local Tourism Council Chair Lyubozar Fratev, and University of Food Technology Deputy Rector Hristo Spassov.
The festival will be held at 16 venues in Plovdiv's Old Town district, where 43 wine makers and 12 food producers will be presented. Visitors will have a chance to taste over 250 kinds of wine and dozens of fine food products.
The event will open on May 10 with the traditional Dionysus Parade through Bulgaria's second most populous city.
As in earlier editions of the festival, 5% of the profit from it will be provided as scholarships to university students enrolled for tourism-related programmes, who stand out for their volunteer work during Wine and Gourmet.
A jury headed by experts from the University of Food Technology will name the best wine-and-food combination in a special competition. Visitors will be able to vote for their favourite red, white and rosé wines in a digital poll. A QR code for the poll will be accessible in a print catalogue, copies of which will be handed out during the festival.
The Wine and Gourmet Festival will be held under the Tourism Ministry's auspices with the support of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.
